Ancient Stoner Stash Uncovered

Researchers say they have located the world’s oldest stash of marijuana, in a tomb in a remote part of China.

The cache of cannabis is about 2,700 years old and was clearly “cultivated for psychoactive purposes,” rather than as fibre for clothing or as food, says a research paper in the Journal of Experimental Botany.

The 789 grams of dried cannabis was buried alongside a light-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, likely a shaman of the Gushi culture, near Turpan in northwestern China.

On my dime as I smoke it if you know what I mean.

A Novel of Sex, Drugs & Shakespeare

Three distinct urges, ranging from Bardolatry to calculating commercialism to sheer naughtiness, led me to write
MY NAME IS WILL.

First, I had been writing squeaky-clean Saturday morning cartoons for Disney for ten years, and desperately needed to write not only a novel, but a novel where even the good guys occasionally lie, cheat, break the law, and have sex.

Second, as a Shakespeare junkie, I have always been fascinated by my surmise of the Bard's life in the year 1582. Put yourself in his breeches. You’re eighteen years old, ambitious, monstrously talented. Your friends have all gone off to further their careers, studying for either the priesthood in Rome or France or the arts and letters at Cambridge or Oxford. But you're stuck in provincial Stratford-upon-Avon, instructing six-year-olds in the basics of Latin. It doesn’t look like it can get much worse… until you knock up a local old-maid farmer’s daughter and get dragged into a shotgun wedding. Among the miasma of facts and legends about Shakespeare’s life, this period has always struck me as the most human and compelling, and probably the most formative.

But with my first novel, I didn’t want to get pigeonholed as a writer of historical fiction. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) So the third challenge I set myself was to create something contemporary, relevant, and political. I began to think about my own late teens, kicking around a famously alternative-lifestyle college in the mists of Northern California, and how that experience – the insights gained while “abusing” drugs along the beautiful wooded paths of the campus while studying Latin, classical literature, Greek myth and philosophy – helped shaped me into the writer I am. I particularly wondered whether today's youth are allowed the same opportunities for intellectual and spiritual experimentation.

During the depths of my disillusionment about the 2004 reelection of George Bush and the worldwide realignment of religious dogma and state power, I came across Shadowplay, the fascinating book by Claire Asquith, in which she posits that Shakespeare was a dissident Catholic, using his works to send coded messages of hope and support to England's oppressed Catholic minority. What a perfect theme for my book: Shakespeare's emergence as a political playwright.

But then, how to bring in the contemporary element? The answer occurred to me while watching the director's cut of Richard Kelly’s brilliant time-travel movie, Donnie Darko. I would do two parallel stories, one of the young Bard, one of a would-be scholar at an equally tenuous moment in his development, and play with the parallels and contrasts of Elizabethan vs. modern American politics and justice.

Finally, there had to be an element that would bind the two stories together. I recalled the single most extraordinary event of my brief time at UC Santa Cruz.

There was this mushroom.

A single, thirty-five gram psilocybin mushroom that a friend in my dorm had shared among ten people one memorable night, cutting it into wedges like an apple pie. Eureka! That was how the two stories could merge... the mushroom would be an organic version of the "artifact" that is (in Donnie Darko's universe, at least) both a cause of and a necessity for time travel.

From there, the story took on a life of its own. My stumbling upon the historical playwright/spy Anthony Munday and the exorcist Jesuit Robert Debdale was a boon. One or two characters, meant to be the passing objects of a young poet's lust, became, for me, living, breathing individuals whose needs and reproaches demanded attention and respect. As I typed, I refused to think about how it would end… the story had begun to tell itself, and I wanted it to be a surprise.

Although the novel is meant above all else to be ripping good fun, I also hope it reminds us (in this election year) that while Christian family values are fine and dandy for Christian families, what we call civilization –
literature, philosophy, ethics, the arts, – is often driven forward by fools and madmen, addicts and fornicators – the heathen worshipers of lost civilizations, potent medicines, and dead playwrights.

I Don't Need to Sell My Soul, He's Already in Me

...by tescosuicide (April 30, 2008)

The time is now-the vicious here, a stolen dinner code
The license of the savage land that you’ve always sold
So bite the hand that needs you and bless another coal
The virus never issues from a cotton so very old
As the lights come down and the guilty blaze another sort of road
You wash your hands and start to climb the ladder that you stole

~Darby Crash

My wife and I were talking about this the other night; creative lyrics. I’m not talking about when some asshead just quotes literature to make people think they’re actually smarter than the average musician.. don’t you hate that shit? It’s even worse when they use it as a chorus or the title of the song -like, “Just in case you didn’t read the lyrics sheet, you can still tell that I’m so well read!”. I’m talking about lyrics that get a hold of you.. even when they’re simple.

Tomorrow, go back to being friends
But tonight let’s be lovers, we kiss and sweat,
We’ll turn this better thing to the best of all we can offer
Just a rogue kiss, tangled tongues and lips
See me this way, I’m turning and turning for you girl

~Dave Matthews

Lyrics that make you have to think a little about where the writer is coming from. I realize everything is up to interpretation but when my wife says that Eulogy is a positive tune about Jesus..

You had a lot to say,
You had a lot of nothing to say…
Come down,
Get off your fuckin' cross
We need the fuckin' space to nail the next fool martyr

~Tool

Yeah, you see what I mean?

Preserving the Sanctity of Sidewalks

For years, Princeton Freshman have trampled sidewalks of town and campus alike with impunity, despite consistent popular support among upperclassmen for a return to the days when the Frosh had to walk on the grass.

Now, thanks to recent successful efforts to eliminate rights of a minority group in California and other states, the upperclassmen have a strategy to restore Traditional Perambulatory Values here on campus.

"Princeton Proposition 8," a student group dedicated to saving our sidewalks, is collecting signatures in order to put Frosh sidewalk use up for a vote of the student body.

The group had tremendous success yesterday, gathering signatures from more than 300 supporters!

"Ladies and Gentlemen: The Fabulous Stains"

Ryan Adams, The New Westerns & Waylon

You Asked For It: The New Westerns

The New Westerns

The New Westerns
(Radiofree Records)

By Martin Cizmar

Not too many bands morph from cover band to successful original act – especially when they start out playing covers of Ryan freakin’ Adams – but that’s just what the subject of this week’s
You Asked For It, ... Phoenix's The New Westerns, have done.

Formed in spring 2007, they started out doing covers, before recording their self-titled alt-country EP earlier this year.

To be fair, they weren’t always slumming it with the Heartbreaker – their MySpace says they also did some Waylon for the resort crowds in Phoenix and Scottsdale – but I’m immediately suspicious of anyone who’s overly enamored of Adams.

On The New Westerns, they’re not nearly as bad as Adams
or as good as Waylon.

The Westerns – they do that annoying thing where they all have the last name Western, which was cool when the Ramones did it, and OK when the Donnas did it, but is otherwise endlessly annoying to me – have a decent sound, as evidenced
by the first song, “The Curse of Neglect.”

The music is good, with some nice mournful steel guitars and a jittery little rhythm, but the vocals need work.

I’m not a huge fan of Danny Western’s voice throughout the record, but here it’s at it's worst, mixed loud, hard and clear, as he sings some pretty decent lyrics (“I come from a long line of mad sons of bitches, the ones who aren’t afraid to come within inches”).

The vocals get much, much better on “Your Black Heart,”
my favorite song on the record,
when Danny comes in twangy after a woeful little melodica
(cross between a harmonica and an accordion) opening.

The EP is also plagued with occasionally self-indulgent guitar work, the most glaring example midway through the second song, “Railroad Gal,” but mostly the sound works,
though it’s obviously still maturing.

The New Westerns is a pretty down tempo record
– the first 1:05 of “So Long Tennessee” is actually silent (yawn) –
but it’s got a nice flavor, and I’d love to hear what this band can do
rocking out a little, with Danny’s twang in full effect.

Dog Gets Bone

Is Pop Culture Finally Admitting That Women Like to Touch Themselves?

Maybe I’m imagining things, but has anyone else noticed more allusions to female masturbation on TV? On Gossip Girl a couple
of weeks ago, the show started with Blair having a sex dream and Dorota (her housekeeper) warning her that “God is always watching” -- and Blair telling her to go away, ostensibly so Blair can finish her business. Last week on Grey’s Anatomy -- a show which is legitimately terrible at this point -- Izzy (spoiler alert!)
is having loud sex with her ghost-boyfriend and her room mates (including her real-boyfriend Alex) hear her. Everyone’s confused, and Alex says something like, “She’s flying solo.
It’s hot.”

I’m only 25, but growing up I never heard about women masturbating -- and I certainly never saw it referenced on TV. Male masturbation, on the other hand, was an assumption -- something all men supposedly did, that they could joke and talk about. Female masturbation was gross and weird, something we all denied doing, if we talked about it at all. So I’m glad to see it presented as normal.

In other pop-culture self-love references,...

Bush is Back (...in Your Pants)

Some good news in dire times: Apparently, women will no longer be expected to buff their pubic region to the smooth, hairless sheen favored by porn stars, plastic dolls, and pre-pubescent girls.

In an article in Salon, Lisa Germinsky puns her way to the point (Bush is back! But not in the White House!) that many women are no longer willing to pay strangers lots of money to pour hot wax onto their genitals.

It should probably come as no surprise that the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression would inspire a little fuzz. Conspicuous spending is out, after all. And maintaining a stripper-worthy wax job ain't cheap. ... (more)

Orgy for Peace...Cancelled

After weeks of preparations for the largest sex event of its kind in Israel, organizers were forced to cancel it this week due to public pressure and threats exerted on the owner of the venue where the sex fest was to take place.

The event in question, which was scheduled to take place on "International Orgasm Day," aimed to bring together some 250 participants seeking to promote world peace through multiple orgasms. ...

The orgy was organized by the Raelian movement, a UFO religion whose followers believe humankind was created by aliens. The group's spokesman, Kobi Drori, said that the orgy was meant to include straights, gays, lesbians and bisexuals, all of them over 18.
"The purpose of the event was to try and bring world peace through mass orgasm, this by experiencing consensual sex and natural, uninterrupted pleasure. It was important to make love without feeling guilty or shy," he explained.

Drori protested the fact that nowadays the words "war," "violence" and "murder" have become more legitimate than "sex," "orgasm" and "pleasure." ...

"We wanted to put into practice the saying 'make love, not war'." ...

Ambassador Dewey

On a freezing morning in January of 1988, librarians in the small town of Spencer, Iowa found a tiny kitten stuffed into the night drop box. The kitten was shivering and starving, but he won the hearts of his rescuers and made the library his permanent home. In Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World, Vicki Myron tells his story.

Shortly after his arrival a contest was held to name the new cat and he was officially dubbed Dewey Readmore Books. He seemed to be ideally suited for the life of a library cat; he was very tolerant and loved being around people. Dewey seemed to know who needed him the most and did what he could to meet their needs. He was wonderful with children and wasn’t destructive. He became an ambassador for Spencer, Iowa and people came from all over to see this marvelous cat. ...

How Does a Thought Become a Thing?

In the Jane Roberts’ books, Seth says “When we think a thought, electromagnetic energy units (EEUs) are generated. When we concentrate on an idea or desire, the intensity of the EEUs is so great that a portion of our own consciousness is actually imparted to the form. The greater the intensity of our emotion relative to that thought, the sooner the mass (the physical form corresponding to our thought) enters our experience.”

Aptly named after the US "Shock and Awe" military campaign to knock out Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, the game gives players 30 seconds to aim at a figure of Bush ducking behind a rostrum.

Bank on It.

Was Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich brought down as a result of his support for the disgruntled employees of Republic Window & Glass? ...Because he said he was going to cut off his state's contracts with Bank of America?

Just coincidence? Fish smell?

-

You could see the shit about to hit the fan as ... the day after the Governor's threat to stop his state from doing business with
Bank of America
, ... we got corporate America's response via
their lackeys. Here was the their semi-veiled warning ... HERE.

And, of course, the following day ... the Governor of Illinois was arrested & implicated in a "major" scandal & thereby discredited.

Perhaps the explanation is here: The Real Story Behind the Rushed Blagojevich Bust: How the Feds Are Frustrated by Losing (Maybe) Half of Their Case

Chicago Tribune. Bank of America. Co-conspirators?

Sam Zell, the owner of the Chicago Tribune, did take the company private a year ago.
The company filed for bankruptcy last week. Four banks helped Sam Zell with the buyout last year. I bet you can guess the name of one of those four banks.

"...secured creditors like the banks that financed the buyout— JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch."

Yep. Bank of America.

And, Bank of America now owns Merrill Lynch.
So, that would be two of the four banks, actually.

And, that would lead a sane person to logically conclude why the Chicago Tribune broke the deal they made with Patrick Fitzgerald to not run a story about the wire-taps on Governor Blagojevich until the Feds had enough evidence to convict.

Timing is everything, they say.

And, someone either fucked up the timing of Governor Blagojevich's arrest,
or timed the arrest perfectly. Which do you think it was?

One thing is for sure. Something doesn't quite add up.

Leaked GOP Internal Memo Indicates Intentional Union-Busting by Republican Senators

Actual E-mail (below):

From: Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2008 9:12 AM
To: Subject: Action Alert -- Auto Bailout

Today at noon, Senators Ensign, Shelby, Coburn and DeMint will hold a press conference in the Senate Radio/TV Gallery. They would appreciate our support through messaging and attending the press conference, if possible. The message they want us to deliver is:

1. This is the democrats first opportunity to payoff organized labor after the election. This is a precursor to card check and other items. Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it.

2. This rush to judgment is the same thing that happened with the TARP. Members did not have an opportunity to read or digest the legislation and therefore could not understand the consequences of it. We should not rush to pass this because Detroit says the sky is falling.

The sooner you can have press releases and documents like this in the hands of members and the press, the better. Please contact me if you need additional information. Again, the hardest thing for the democrats to do is get 60 votes. If we can hold the Republicans, we can beat this.

China Buys Naming Rights to U.S.

...by Andy Borowitz

In a landmark deal that could provide much-needed cash to America's anemic economy, China agreed today to acquire the naming rights to the U.S. for a reported $1.4 trillion.

The deal, which is expected to be signed by President George W. Bush and Chinese president Hu Jintao sometime before Inauguration Day on January 20, was hailed today by Mr. Bush as a "win-win" for both countries.

"We get 1.4 trillion dollars, and all we have to do is change our name to 'Panda Garden,'" Mr. Bush told reporters at the White House.

The president said he decided to make the extraordinary deal after being shocked to learn that the U.S. was in a recession, when it was reported yesterday in Duh magazine.

According to President Hu, the Chinese had originally inquired about purchasing the rights to two American sports facilities named after troubled companies, Ford Field in Detroit and Citi Field in New York, but then decided it might be more cost-efficient to buy the rights "to the whole shebang."

In addition to the $1.4 trillion, the Chinese government said that it would provide $10 million to commission a new national anthem that would somehow incorporate the words "Panda Garden" in the lyrics, and to redesign the nation's flag, which will henceforth be known as "the stars, stripes, and adorable bear."

Eminem's New Album, "Relapse" ...

Tuning Out the Braindead Megaphone

...by David Sirota

If you're having trouble remembering what the recent election was all about, rest easy: you’re probably not going senile – you’re likely experiencing the momentary effects of brainwashing.

For weeks, your television, newspaper and radio have been telling you America is a "center-right nation" that elected Barack Obama to crush his fellow "socialist" hippies, discard the agenda he campaigned on, and meet the policy demands of electorally humiliated Republicans.

This is the usual post-election nonsense from the Braindead Megaphone, as author George Saunders famously calls our political and media noise machine. When George W. Bush wins by 3 million votes, the megaphone blares announcements about a conservative mandate that Democrats must respect. When Obama wins by twice as much, the same megaphone roars about Democrats having no mandate to do anything other than appease conservatives.

It's confusing, isn't it? We hazily recall backing Obama and his progressive platform. Yet, the megaphone's re-educative shock treatment aims to wipe away that memory and conjure eternal conservatism from our spotless minds.

Luckily, we have polling to maintain our sanity.

Public opinion surveys show most Obama voters knew the Illinois senator is a progressive when they cast their ballots – and those votes for him weren't just anti-Bush protests, they were ideological. According to a post-election poll by my colleagues at the Campaign for America's Future, 70 percent of Americans say they want conservatives to help this progressive president enact his decidedly progressive agenda. ... The Contrast

The reason many of you have felt great complication in your physical experience is because you have become such passionate observers, and as you observe, whatever you are observing dictates your vibration. You are, for the most part, vibrational reactionaries. Whatever you are observing is vibrating. You observe it. As you observe it, you include it, and then you vibrate there, and then you say, “That is a very bad thing. That thing has made me feel very bad. That thing should go away. We should have a law. We should do something to separate that from me, because as I observe it, I don’t feel very good.”

And what we are wanting you to realize is, it’s not about needing to deal with all those things. As observers, that’s your conclusion. You say, “Since I haven’t learned to flow Energy, and I have no clue about the Energy I’m flowing, all I’m doing is running around and observing, and when I observe good things, I feel good and good things come to me, but when I observe bad things, I feel bad and bad things come to me. So we need to, as a people, get rid of all bad things. And if we could just get rid of all bad things, then we’d have peace on Earth.” Not passion on Earth. Peace on Earth. We would have sameness. We would have absence of desire. We would have ending of beingness.

If we could eliminate contrast, then we would eliminate choice, and if we could eliminate choice, then we would eliminate asking. If we could eliminate asking, we would eliminate summoning of Source, we would eliminate leading edge thought, and we would eliminate eternity.

It is the contrast that puts the eternalness in eternity. It is the contrast that you think you don’t want, that you really do want. You don’t want to get rid of contrast. You want to learn to feel what you’re giving your attention to, and be more deliberate in your choice of vibration.

According to a post-election poll by my colleagues at the Campaign for America's Future, 70 percent of Americans say they want conservatives to help this progressive president enact his decidedly progressive agenda. ... The Viewpoint of a Connector

A person who lives in a state of unity with the Source of all life doesn't look any different from ordinary folks.

But when you notice that they go through life as the lucky ones who seem to get all the breaks,
and when you begin to talk to them,
you realize how distinctive they are compared to people living at ordinary levels of awareness.

These people,
whom I call connectors to signify their harmonious connection with the field of intention,
are individuals who have made themselves available for success.
It's impossible to get them to be pessimistic about achieving what they desire in their lives.

They speak from an inner conviction that communicates their profound and simple knowing that the universal Source supplies everything.

To connectors,
everything that shows up in their life is there because the power of intention intended it there.
So they're always in a state of gratitude.
They feel thankful for everything,
even things that might seem to be obstacles.
They have the ability and desire to see a temporary illness as a blessing,
and they know in their heart that somewhere an opportunity exists in the setback, and that is what they look for in everything that shows up in their life.

Through their thanks,
they honor all possibilities,
rather than asking their Source for something,
because that seems to give power to what's missing.
They commune with the Source in a state of reverent gratitude for all that's present in their lives,
knowing that this empowers their intention to manifest precisely what they need.

Connectors describe themselves as living in a state of appreciation and bewilderment.
You're unlikely to hear them complain about anything.
They aren't fault-finders...

...from Dr. Wayne W. Dyer's book, "The Power of Intention."

Synchronicity and Nonlocal Tips

"Each week, I receive emails expressing appreciation for REALITIES, and amazement that the reader found the weekly blog post uncannily personal, relevant, or well-timed.

This isn’t an unusual experience for Field training students who are practicing resting in “alignment”—that inner state of self-agreement that is, as the Course states, the aim of practice.

While we undertake practice then, for the sake of alignment rather than to change outer conditions, we’re aware that the inner state reaches into the world nonlocally, and can have a profound, far-reaching, and often startling effect.

Commensurate with a person’s receptivity, the posts in this blog can show up in keeping with what Jung called synchronicity.

Defying linear cause and effect, synchronicity orchestrates events into a meaningful coherence that imparts some special instruction, guidance, or opportunity.

Synchronous events fall together, usually suddenly, in some conspicuous demonstration of a higher order or organizing principle that it would be irrational to attribute to coincidence.

Those who consult the I Ching (the ancient Chinese Book of Changes) and other oracles are opening themselves to the forces of synchronicity.

Through this availability to nonlocal influences, they enter a different causal stream than the one that governs our daily immersion in the world. In the case of an I Ching reading, the throwing of the coins or yarrow sticks, the subsequent formation of hexagrams, and thus the reading itself all take place under the jurisdiction of the nonlocal.

Of course, consulting the I Ching, Tarot cards, or other oracular device in no way presupposes such willingness.

One might do these things willfully, in a state of contradiction, from a stance of exporting one’s creative authority, superstitiously, and so on—and there’s nothing in Field practice that either requires or endorses such practices. But the do illustrate something important.

In our view, the whole world is an oracle, commensurate with our receptivity.

The true student finds the teacher everywhere, and as our willingness deepens, we become alert to nonlocal “tips” that are being extended to further our good both inwardly and outwardly.

Such tips come naturally, of themselves, and have the undeniable presence and self-evident authority of a synchronicity.

They do not involve “figuring out” or “reading into” things. When they happen, there’s no doubt about it, and their meaning and value are obvious.

Usually, they come when we aren’t looking for them.

We’re simply resting in alignment, open, defenseless, willing—and suddenly, the teacher is at hand.

You can begin to play with this principle of nonlocal instruction—and play is the best approach—by noticing certain events and situations of your waking life in what may be a different way for you—that is, as dream events.

Especially when something happens during the day that seems unusual, dreamlike, coincidental, surreal, or magical, you can regard the event as though it were primarily metaphoric or symbolic, and listen for what it has to tell you.

The Course calls this practice “dreamwalking,” and notes that it is a powerful way to meet our experience that can confer surprising benefits.

Dreamwalking tips from the Field often point to the next step, clarifying our direction or shining the light on a contradiction that we’re ready to release.

One doesn’t need coins or yarrow sticks or a deck of cards or tea leaves or anything else. The whole of creation is a map of consciousness for the willing."

At Your Command

1939 ... At Your Command ... by Neville Goddard

This book contains the very essence of the Principle of Expression. Had I cared to, I could have expanded it into a book of several hundred pages but such expansion would have defeated the purpose of this book.

Commands to be effective – must be short and to the point: the greatest command ever recorded is found in the few simple words, “And God said, ‘Let there be light.’”

In keeping with this principle I now give to you, the reader, in these few pages, the truth as it was revealed to me.

Neville

At Your Command

Can man decree a thing and have it come to pass? Most decidedly he can! Man has always decreed that which has appeared in his world and is today decreeing that which is appearing in his world and shall continue to do so as long as man is conscious of being man. Not one thing has ever appeared in man’s world but what man decreed that it should. This you may deny, but try as you will you cannot disprove it, for this decreeing is based upon a changeless principle. You do not command things to appear by your words or loud affirmations. Such vain repetition is more often than not confirmation of the opposite. Decreeing is ever done in consciousness. That is; every man is conscious of being that which he has decreed himself to be. The dumb man without using words is conscious of being dumb. Therefore he is decreeing himself to be dumb.

When the Bible is read in this light you will find it to be the greatest scientific book ever written. Instead of looking upon the Bible as the historical record of an ancient civilization or the biography of the unusual life of Jesus, see it as a great psychological drama taking place in the consciousness of man.

Claim it as your own and you will suddenly transform your world from the barren deserts of Egypt to the promised land of Canaan.

Every one will agree with the statement that all things were made by God, and without him there is nothing made that is made, but what man does not agree upon is the identity of God. All the churches and priesthoods of the world disagree as to the identity and true nature of God. The Bible proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Moses and the prophets were in one hundred per cent accord as to the identity and nature of God. And Jesus’ life and teachings are in agreement with the findings of the prophets of old. Moses discovered God to be man’s awareness of being, when he declared these little understood words, “I AM hath sent me unto you.” David sang in his psalms, “Be still and know that I AM God.” Isaiah declared, “I AM the Lord and there is none else. There is no God beside me. I girded thee, though thou hast not known me. I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all these things.”

The awareness of being as God is stated hundreds of times in the New Testament. To name but a few: “I AM the shepherd, I AM the door; I AM the resurrection and the life; I AM the way; I AM the Alpha and Omega; I AM the beginning and the end”; and again, “Whom do you say that I AM?”

It is not stated, “I, Jesus, am the door. I, Jesus am the way,” nor is it said, “Whom do you say that I, Jesus, am?” It is clearly stated, “I AM the way.” The awareness of being is the door through which the manifestations of life pass into the world of form.

Consciousness is the resurrecting power – resurrecting that which man is conscious of being. Man is ever out-picturing that which he is conscious of being. This is the truth that makes man free, for man is always self-imprisoned or self-freed.

If you, the reader, will give up all of your former beliefs in a God apart from yourself, and claim God as your awareness of being – as Jesus and the prophets did – you will transform your world with the realization that, “I and my father are one.” This statement, “I and my father are one, but my father is greater than I,” seems very confusing – but if interpreted in the light of what we have just said concerning the identity of God, you will find it very revealing. Consciousness, being God, is as ‘father.’ The thing that you are conscious of being is the ‘son’ bearing witness of his ‘father.’ It is like the conceiver and its conceptions. The conceiver is ever greater than his conceptions yet ever remains one with his conception. For instance; before you are conscious of being man, you are first conscious of being. Then you become conscious of being man. Yet you remain as conceiver, greater than your conception – man.

Jesus discovered this glorious truth and declared himself to be one with God – not a God that man had fashioned. For he never recognized such a God. He said, “If any man should ever come, saying, ‘Look here or look there,’ believe them not, for the kingdom of God is within you.” Heaven is within you. Therefore, when it is recorded that “He went unto his father,” it is telling you that he rose in consciousness to the point where he was just conscious of being, thus transcending the limitations of his present conception of himself, called ‘Jesus.’

In the awareness of being all things are possible, he said, “You shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass.” This is his decreeing – rising in consciousness to the naturalness of being the thing desired. As he expressed it, “And I, if I be lifted up, I shall draw all men unto me.” If I be lifted up in consciousness to the naturalness of the thing desired I will draw the manifestation of that desire unto me. For he states, “No man comes unto me save the father within me draws him, and I and my father are one.” Therefore, consciousness is the father that is drawing the manifestations of life unto you.

You are, at this very moment, drawing into your world that which you are now conscious of being. Now you can see what is meant by, “You must be born again.” If you are dissatisfied with your present expression in life the only way to change it, is to take your attention away form that which seems so real to you and rise in consciousness to that which you desire to be. You cannot serve two masters, therefore to take your attention from one state of consciousness and place it upon another is to die to one and live to the other.

The question, “Whom do you say that I AM?” is not addressed to a man called ‘Peter’ by one called ‘Jesus.’ This is the eternal question addressed to one’s self by one’s true being. In other words, “Whom do you say that you are?” For your conviction of yourself – your opinion of yourself will determine your expression in life. He states, “You believe in God – believe also in me.” In other words, it is the me within you that is this God.

Praying then, is seen to be recognizing yourself to be that which you now desire, rather than its accepting form of petitioning a God that does not exist for that which you now desire.

So can’t you see why the millions of prayers are unanswered? Men pray to a God that does not exist. For instance: To be conscious of being poor and to pray to a God for riches is to be rewarded with that which you are conscious of being – which is poverty. Prayers to be successful must be claiming rather than begging – so if you would pray for riches turn from your picture of poverty by denying the very evidence of your senses and assume the nature of being wealthy.

We are told, “When you pray go within in secret and shut the door. And that which your father sees in secret, with that will he reward you openly.” We have identified the ‘father’ to be the awareness of being. We have also identified the ‘door’ to be the awareness of being. So ‘shutting the door’ is shutting out that which ‘I’ am now aware of being and claiming myself to be that which ‘I’ desire to be. The very moment my claim is established to the point of conviction, that moment I begin to draw unto myself the evidence of my claim.

Do not question the how of these things appearing, for no man knows that way. That is, no manifestation knows how the things desired will appear.

Consciousness is the way or door through which things appear. He said, “I AM the way” – not ‘I,’ John Smith, am the way, but “I AM,” the awareness of being, is the way through which the thing shall come. The signs always follow. They never precede. Things have no reality other than in consciousness. Therefore, get the consciousness first and the thing is compelled to appear.

You are told, “Seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be added unto you.” Get first the consciousness of the things that you are seeking and leave the things alone. This is what is meant by “Ye shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass.”

Apply this principle and you will know what it is to ‘prove me and see.” The story of Mary is the story of every man. Mary was not a woman – giving birth in some miraculous way to one called ‘Jesus.’ Mary is the awareness of being that ever remains virgin, no matter how many desires it gives birth to. Right now look upon yourself as this virgin Mary – being impregnated by yourself through the medium of desire – becoming one with your desire to the point of embodying or giving birth to your desire.

For instance: It is said of Mary (whom you now know to be yourself) that she know not a man. Yet she conceived. That is, you, John Smith, have no reason to believe that that which you now desire is possible, but having discovered your awareness of being to be God, you make this awareness your husband and conceive a man child (manifestation) of the Lord, “For thy maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; the Lord God of the whole earth shall he be called.” Your ideal or ambition is this conception – the first command to her, which is now to yourself, is “Go, tell no man.” That is, do not discuss your ambitions or desires with another for the other will only echo your present fears. Secrecy is the first law to be observed in realizing your desire.

The second, as we are told in the story of Mary, is to “Magnify the Lord.” We have identified the Lord as your awareness of being. Therefore, to ‘magnify the Lord’ is to revalue or expand one’s present conception of one’s self to the point where this revaluation becomes natural. When this naturalness is attained you give birth by becoming that which you are one with in consciousness.

The story of creation is given us in digest form in the first chapter of John.

“In the beginning was the word.” Now, this very second, is the ‘beginning’ spoken of. It is the beginning of an urge – a desire. ‘The word’ is the desire swimming around in your consciousness – seeking embodiment. The urge of itself has no reality, For, “I AM” or the awareness of being is the only reality. Things live only as long as I AM aware of being them; so to realize one’s desire, the second line of this first verse of John must be applied. That is, “And the word was with God.” The word, or desire, must be fixed or united with consciousness to give it reality. The awareness becomes aware of being the thing desired, thereby nailing itself upon the form or conception – and giving life unto its conception – or resurrecting that which was heretofore a dead or unfulfilled desire. “Two shall agree as touching anything and it shall be established on earth.”

This agreement is never made between two persons. It is between the awareness and the thing desired. You are now conscious of being, so you are actually saying to yourself, without using words, “I AM.” Now, if it is a state of health that you are desirous of attaining, before you have any evidence of health in your world, you begin to FEEL yourself to be healthy. And the very second the feeling “I AM healthy” is attained the two have agreed. That is, I AM and health have agreed to be one and this agreement ever results in the birth of a child which is the thing agreed upon – in this case, health. And because I made the agreement I express the thing agreed. So you can see why Moses stated, “I AM hath sent me.” For what being, other than I AM could send you into expression? None – for “I AM the way – Beside me there is no other.” If you take the wings of the morning and fly into the uttermost parts of the world or if you make your bed in Hell, you will still be aware of being. You are ever sent into expression by your awareness and your expression is ever that which you are aware of being.

Again, Moses stated, “I AM that I AM.” Now here is something to always bear in mind. You cannot put new wine in old bottles or new patches upon old garments. That is; you cannot take with you into the new consciousness any part of the old man. All of your present beliefs, fears and limitations are weights that bind you to your present level of consciousness. If you would transcend this level you must leave behind all that is now your present self, or conception of yourself. To do this you take your attention away from all that is now your problem or limitation and dwell upon just being. That is; you say silently but feeling to yourself, “I AM. Do not condition this ‘awareness’ as yet. Just declare yourself to be, and continue to do so, until you are lost in the feeling of just being – faceless and formless. When this expansion of consciousness is attained, then, within this formless deep of yourself give form to the new conception by FEELING yourself to be THAT which you desire to be.

You will find within this deep of yourself all things to be divinely possible. Everything in the world which you can conceive of being, is to you, within this present formless awareness, a most natural attainment.

The invitation given us in the Scriptures is – “to be absent from the body and be present with the Lord.” The ‘body’ being your former conception of yourself and ‘the Lord’ – your awareness of being. This is what is meant when Jesus said to Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again for except ye be born again ye cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven.” That is; except you leave behind you your present conception of yourself and assume the nature of the new birth, you will continue to out-picture your present limitations.

The only way to change your expressions of life is to change your consciousness. For consciousness is the reality that eternally solidifies itself in the things round about you. Man’s world in its every detail is his consciousness out-pictured. You can no more change your environment, or world, by destroying things than you can your reflection by destroying the mirror. Your environment, and all within it, reflects that which you are in consciousness. As long as you continue to be that in consciousness so long will you continue to out-picture it in your world.

Knowing this, begin to revalue yourself. Man has placed too little value upon himself. In the Book of Numbers you will read, “In that day there were giants in the land; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers. And we were in their sight as grasshoppers.” This does not mean a time in the dim past when man had the stature of giants. Today is the day, the eternal now when conditions round about you have attained the appearance of giants (such as unemployed, the armies of your enemy, your problems and all things that seem to threaten you) those are the giant that make you feel yourself to be a grasshopper. But, you are told, you were first, in your own sight a grasshopper and because of this you were to the giants – a grasshopper. In other words, you can only be to others what you are first to yourself. Therefore, to revalue yourself and begin to feel yourself to be the giant, a center of power, is to dwarf these former giants and make of them grasshoppers. “All the inhabitants of the earth are as nothing, and he doeth according to his will in the armies of Heaven and among all the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, nor say unto him, “What doest thou’?” This being spoken of is not the orthodox God sitting in space but the one and only God – the everlasting father, your awareness of being. So awake to the power that you are, not as man, but as your true self, a faceless, formless awareness, and free yourself from your self imposed prison.

“I am the good shepherd and know my sheep and am known of mine. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they will follow me.” Awareness is the good shepherd. What I am aware of being, is the ‘sheep’ that follow me. So good a ‘shepherd’ is your awareness that it has never lost one of the ‘sheep’ that you are aware of being.

I am a voice calling in the wilderness of human confusion for such as I am aware of being, and never shall there come a time when that which I am convinced that I am shall fail to find me. “I AM” is an open door for all that I am to enter. Your awareness of being is lord and shepherd of your life. So, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” is seen in its true light now to be your consciousness. You could never be in want of proof or lack the evidence of that which you are aware of being.

This being true, why not become aware of being great; God-loving; wealthy; healthy; and all attributes that you admire?

It is just as easy to possess the consciousness of these qualities as it is to possess their opposites for you have not your present consciousness because of your world. On the contrary, your world is what it is because of your present consciousness. Simple, is it not? Too simple in fact for the wisdom of man that tries to complicate everything.

Paul said of this principle, “It is to the Greeks” (or wisdom of this world) “foolishness.” “And to the Jews” (or those who look for signs) “a stumbling block”; with the result, that man continues to walk in darkness rather than awake to the being that he is. Man has so long worshipped the images of his own making that at first he finds this revelation blasphemous, since it spells death to all his previous beliefs in a God apart from himself. This revelation will bring the knowledge that “I and my father are one but my father is greater than I.” You are one with your present conception of yourself. But you are greater than that which you are at present aware of being.

Before man can attempt to transform his world he must first lay the foundation – “I AM the Lord.” That is, man’s awareness, his consciousness of being is God. Until this is firmly established so that no suggestion or argument put forward by others can shake it, he will find himself returning to the slavery of his former beliefs. “If ye believe not that I AM he, ye shall die in your sins.” That is, you shall continue to be confused and thwarted until you find the cause of your confusion. When you have lifted up the son of man then shall you know that I AM he, that is, that I, John Smith, do nothing of myself, but my father, or that state of consciousness which I am now one with does the works.

When this is realized every urge and desire that springs within you shall find expression in your world. “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and sup with him and he with me.” The “I” knocking at the door is the urge.

The door is your consciousness. To open the door is to become one with that that which is knocking by FEELING oneself to be the thing desired. To feel one’s desire as impossible is to shut the door or deny this urge expression. To rise in consciousness to the naturalness of the thing felt is to swing wide the door and invite this one into embodiment.

That is why it is constantly recorded that Jesus left the world of manifestation and ascended unto his father. Jesus, as you and I, found all things impossible to Jesus, as man. But having discovered his father to be the state of consciousness of the thing desired, he but left behind him the “Jesus consciousness” and rose in consciousness to that state desired and stood upon it until he became one with it. As he made himself one with that, he became that in expression.

This is Jesus simple message to man: Men are but garments that the impersonal being, I AM, the presence that men call God – dwells in. Each garment has certain limitations. In order to transcend these limitations and give expression to that which, as man – John Smith – you find yourself incapable of doing, you take your attention away from your present limitations, or John Smith conception of yourself, and merge yourself in the feeling of being that which you desire. Just how this desire or newly attained consciousness will embody itself, no man knows. For I, or the newly attained consciousness, has ways that ye know not of; its ways are past finding out. Do not speculate as to the HOW of this consciousness embodying itself, for no man is wise enough to know the how. Speculation is proof that you have not attained to the naturalness of being the thing desired and so are filled with doubts.

You are told, “He who lacks wisdom let him ask of God, that gives to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given unto him. But let him ask not doubting for he who doubts is as a wave of the sea that is tossed and battered by the winds. And let not such a one think that he shall receive anything from the Lord.” You can see why this statement is made, for only upon the rock of faith can anything be established. If you have not the consciousness of the thing you have not the cause or foundation upon which thing is erected.

A proof of this established consciousness is given you in the words, “Thank you, father.” When you come into the joy of thanksgiving so that you actually feel grateful for having received that which is not yet apparent to the senses, you have definitely become one in consciousness with the thing for which you gave thanks. God (your awareness) is not mocked. You are ever receiving that which you are aware of being and no man gives thanks for something which he has not received. “Thank you father” is not, as it is used by many today a sort of magical formula. You need never utter aloud the words, “Thank you, father.” In applying this principle as you rise in consciousness to the point where you are really grateful and happy for having received the thing desired, you automatically rejoice and give thanks inwardly. You have already accepted the gift which was but a desire before you rose in consciousness, and your faith is now the substance that shall clothe your desire.

This rising in consciousness is the spiritual marriage where two shall agree upon being one and their likeness or image is established on earth.

“For whatsoever ye ask in my name the same give I unto you.” ‘Whatsoever’ is quite a large measure. It is the unconditional. It does not state if society deems it right or wrong that you should ask it, it rests with you. Do you really want it? Do you desire it? That is all that is necessary. Life will give it to you if you ask ‘in his name.’

His name is not a name that you pronounce with the lips. You can ask forever in the name of God or Jehovah or Christ Jesus and you will ask in vain. ‘Name’ means nature; so, when you ask in the nature of a thing, results ever follow. To ask in the name is to rise in consciousness and become one in nature with the thing desired, rise in consciousness to the nature of the thing, and you will become that thing in expression. Therefore, “what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall receive them.”

Praying, as we have shown you before, is recognition – the injunction to believe that ye receive is first person, present tense. This means that you must be in the nature of the things asked for before you can receive them.

To get into the nature easily, general amnesty is necessary. We are told, “Forgive if ye have aught against any, that your father also, which is in Heaven, may forgive you. But if ye forgive not, neither will your father forgive you.” This may seem to be some personal God who is pleased or displeased with your actions but this is not the case.

Consciousness, being God, if you hold in consciousness anything against man, you are binding that condition in your world. But to release man from all condemnation is to free yourself so that you may rise to any level necessary; there is therefore, no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, a very good practice before you enter into your meditation is first to free every man in the world from blame. For LAW is never violated and you can rest confidently in the knowledge that every man’s conception of himself is going to be his reward. So you do not have to bother yourself about seeing whether or not man gets what you consider he should get. For life makes no mistakes and always gives man that which man first gives himself.

This brings us to that much abused statement of the Bible on tithing. Teachers of all kinds have enslaved man with this affair of tithing, for not themselves understanding the nature of tithing and being themselves fearful of lack, they have led their followers to believe that a tenth part of their income should be given to the Lord. Meaning, as they make very clear, that, when one gives a tenth part of his income to their particular organization he is giving his “tenth part” to the Lord – (or is tithing). But remember, “I AM” the Lord.” Your awareness of being is the God that you give to and you ever give in this manner.

Therefore when you claim yourself to be anything, you have given that claim or quality to God. And your awareness of being, which is no respecter of persons, will return to you pressed down, shaken together, and running over with that quality or attribute which you claim for yourself.

Awareness of being is nothing that you could ever name. To claim God to be rich; to be great; to be love; to be all wise; is to define that which cannot be defined. For God is nothing that could ever be named.

Tithing is necessary and you do tithe with God. But from now on give to the only God and see to it that you give him the quality that you desire as man to express by claiming yourself to be the great, the wealthy, the loving, the all wise.

Do not speculate as to how you shall express these qualities or claims, for life has a way that you, as man, know not of. Its ways are past finding out. But, I assure you, the day you claim these qualities to the point of conviction, your claims will be honored. There is nothing covered that shall not be uncovered. That which is spoken in secret shall be proclaimed from the housetops. That is, your secret convictions of yourself – these secret claims that no man knows of, when really believed, will be shouted from the housetops in your world. For your convictions of yourself are the words of the God within you, which words are spirit and cannot return unto you void but must accomplish whereunto they are sent.

You are at this moment calling out of the infinite that which you are now conscious of being. And not one word or conviction will fail to find you.

“I AM” the vine and ye are the branches.” Consciousness is the ‘vine,’ and those qualities which you are now conscious of being are as ‘branches’ that you feed and keep alive. Just as a branch has no life except it be rooted in the vine, so likewise things have no life except you be conscious of them. Just as a branch withers and dies if the sap of the vine ceases to flow towards it, so do things in your world pass away if you take your attention from them, because your attention is as the sap of life that keeps alive and sustains the things of your world.

To dissolve a problem that now seems so real to you all that you do is remove your attention from it. In spite of its seeming reality, turn from it in consciousness. Become indifferent and begin to feel yourself to be that which would be the solution of the problem.

For instance; if you were imprisoned no man would have to tell you that you should desire freedom. Freedom, or rather the desire of freedom would be automatic. So why look behind the four walls of your prison bars? Take your attention from being imprisoned and begin to feel yourself to be free. FEEL it to the point where it is natural – the very second you do so, those prison bars will dissolve. Apply this same principle to any problem.

I have seen people who were in debt up to their ears apply this principle and in the twinkling of an eye debts that were mountainous were removed. I have seen those whom doctors had given up as incurable take their attention away from their problem of disease and begin to feel themselves to be well in spite of the evidence of their sense to the contrary. In no time at all this so called “incurable disease” vanished and left no scar.

Your answer to, “Whom do you say that I AM”? [sic] ever determines your expression. As long as you are conscious of being imprisoned or diseased, or poor, so long will you continue to out-picture or express these conditions.

When man realized that he is now that which he is seeking and begins to claim that he is, he will have the proof of his claim. This cue is given you in words, “Whom seek ye?” And they answered, “Jesus.” And the voice said, “I am he.” ‘Jesus’ here means salvation or savior. You are seeking to be salvaged from that which is not your problem.

“I am” is he that will save you. If you are hungry, your savior is food. If you are poor, your savior is riches. If you are imprisoned, your savior is freedom. If you are diseased, it will not be a man called Jesus who will save you, but health will become your savior. Therefore, claim “I am he,” in other words, claim yourself to be the thing desired. Claim it in consciousness – not in words – and consciousness will reward you with your claim. You are told, “You shall find me when you FEEL after me.” Well, FEEL after that quality in consciousness until you FEEL yourself to be it. When you lose yourself in the feeling of being it, the quality will embody itself in your world.

You are healed from your problem when you touch the solution of it. “Who has touched me? For I perceive virtue is gone out of me.” Yes, the day you touch this being within you – FEELING yourself to be cured or healed, virtues will come out of your very self and solidify themselves in your world as healings.

It is said, ‘You believe in God. Believe also in me for I am he.” Have the faith of God. “He made himself one with God and found it not robbery to do the works of God.” Go you and do likewise. Yes, begin to believe your awareness, your consciousness of being to be God. Claim for yourself all the attributes that you have heretofore given an external God and you will begin to express these claims.

“For I am not a God afar off. I am nearer than your hands and feet – nearer than your very breathing.” I am your awareness of being. I am that in which all that I shall ever be aware of being shall begin and end. “For before the world was I AM; and when the world shall cease to be, I AM; before Abraham was, I AM.” This I AM is your awareness.

“Except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it.” ‘The Lord,’ being your consciousness, except that which you seek is first established in your consciousness, you will labor in vain to find it. All things must begin and end in consciousness.

So, blessed indeed is the man that trusteth in himself – for man’s faith in God will ever be measured by his confidence in himself. You believe in a God, believe also in ME.

Put not your trust in men for men but reflect the being that you are, and can only bring to you or do unto you that which you have first done unto yourself.

“No man taketh away my life, I lay it down myself.” I have the power to lay it down and the power to take it up again.

No matter what happens to man in this world it is never an accident. It occurs under the guidance of an exact and changeless Law.

“No man” (manifestation) “comes unto me except the father within me draw him,” and “I and my father are one.” Believe this truth and you will be free. Man has always blamed others for that which he is and will continue to do so until he find himself as cause of all. “I AM” comes not to destroy but to fulfill. “I AM,” the awareness within you, destroys nothing but ever fill full the molds or conception one has of one’s self.

It is impossible for the poor man to find wealth in this world no matter how he is surrounded with it until he first claims himself to be wealthy. For signs follow, they do not precede. To constantly kick and complain against the limitations of poverty while remaining poor in consciousness is to play the fool’s game. Changes cannot take place from that level of consciousness for life in constantly out-picturing all levels.

Follow the example of the prodigal son. Realize that you, yourself brought about this condition of waste and lack and make the decision within yourself to rise to a higher level where the fatted calf, the ring, and the robe await your claim.

There was no condemnation of the prodigal when he had the courage to claim this inheritance as his own. Others will condemn us only as long as we continue in that for which we condemn ourselves. So: “Happy is the man that condemneth himself not in that which he alloweth.” For to life nothing is condemned. All is expressed.

Life does not care whether you call yourself rich or poor; strong or weak. It will eternally reward you with that which you claim as true of yourself.

The measurements of right and wrong belong to man alone. To life there is nothing right or wrong. As Paul stated in his letters to the Romans: “I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself, but to him that esteemeth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.” Stop asking yourself whether you are worthy or unworthy to receive that which you desire. You, as man, did not create the desire. Your desires are ever fashioned within you because of what you now claim yourself to be.

When a man is hungry, (without thinking) he automatically desires food. When imprisoned, he automatically desires freedom and so forth. Your desires contain within themselves the plan of self-expression.

So leave all judgments out of the picture and rise in consciousness to the level of your desire and make yourself one with it by claiming it to be so now. For: “My grace is sufficient for thee. My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Have faith in this unseen claim until the conviction is born within you that it is so. Your confidence in this claim will pay great rewards. Just a little while and he, the thing desired, will come. But without faith it is impossible to realize anything. Through faith the worlds were framed because “faith is the substance of the thing hoped for – the evidence of the thing not yet seen.”

Don’t be anxious or concerned as to results. They will follow just as surely as day follows night.

Look upon your desires – all of them – as the spoken words of God, and every word or desire a promise. The reason most of us fail to realize our desires is because we are constantly conditioning them. Do not condition your desire. Just accept it as it comes to you. Give thanks for it to the point that you are grateful for having already received it – then go about your way in peace.

Such acceptance of your desire is like dropping seed – fertile seed – into prepared soil. For when you can drop the thing desired in consciousness, confident that it shall appear, you have done all that is expected to you. But, to be worried or concerned about the HOW of your desire maturing is to hold these fertile seeds in a mental grasp, and, therefore, never to have dropped them in the soil of confidence.

The reason men condition their desires is because they constantly judge after the appearance of being and see the things as real – forgetting that the only reality is the consciousness back of them.

To see things as real is to deny that all things are possible to God. The man who is imprisoned and sees his four walls as real is automatically denying the urge or promise of God within him of freedom.

A question often asked when this statement is made is; If one’s desire is a gift of God how can you say that if one desires to kill a man that such a desire is good and therefore God sent? In answer to this let me say that no man desires to kill another. What he does desire is to be freed from such a one. But because he does not believe that the desire to be free from such a one contains within itself the powers of freedom, he conditions that desire and sees the only way to express such freedom is to destroy the man – forgetting that the life wrapped within the desire has ways that he, as man, knows not of. Its ways are past finding out. Thus man distorts the gifts of God through his lack of faith.

Problems are the mountains spoken of that can be removed if one has but the faith of a grain of a mustard seed. Men approach their problem as did the old lady who, on attending service and hearing the priest say, “If you had but the faith of a grain of a mustard seed you would say unto yonder mountain ‘be thou removed’ and it shall be removed and nothing is impossible to you.”

That night as she said her prayers, she quoted this part of the scriptures and retired to bed in what she thought was faith. On arising in the morning she rushed to the window and exclaimed: “I knew that old mountain would still be there.”

For this is how man approaches his problem. He knows that they are still going to confront him. And because life is no respecter of persons and destroys nothing, it continues to keep alive that which he is conscious of being.

Things will disappear only as man changes in consciousness. Deny it if you will, it still remains a fact that consciousness is the only reality and things but mirror that which you are in consciousness. So the heavenly state you are seeking will be found only in consciousness, for the kingdom of heaven is within you. As the will of heaven is ever done on earth you are today living in the heaven that you have established within you. For here on this very earth your heaven reveals itself. The kingdom of heaven really is at hand. NOW is the accepted time. So create a new heaven, enter into a new state of consciousness and a new earth will appear.

“The former things shall pass away. They shall not be remembered not come into mind any more. For behold, I,” (your consciousness) “come quickly and my reward is with me.”

I am nameless but will take upon myself every name (nature) that you call me. Remember it is you, yourself, that I speak of as ‘me.’ So every conception that you have of yourself – that is every deep conviction – you have of yourself is that which you shall appear as being – for I AM not fooled; God is not mocked.

Now let me instruct you in the art of fishing. It is recorded that the disciples fished all night and caught nothing. Then Jesus came upon the scene and told them to cast their nets in once more, into the same waters that only a moment before were barren – and this time their nets were bursting with the catch.

This story is taking place in the world today right within you, the reader. For you have within you all the elements necessary to go fishing. But until you find that Jesus Christ, (your awareness) is Lord, you will fish, as did these disciples, in the night of human darkness. That is, you will fish for THINGS thinking things to be real and will fish with the human bait – which is a struggle and an effort – trying to make contact with this one and that one: trying to coerce this being or the other being; and all such effort will be in vain. But when you discover your awareness of being to be Christ Jesus you will let him direct your fishing. And you will fish in consciousness for the things that you desire. For your desire – will be the fish that you will catch, because your consciousness is the only living reality you will fish in the deep waters of consciousness.

If you would catch that which is beyond your present capacity you must launch out into deeper waters, for, within your present consciousness such fish or desires cannot swim. To launch out into deeper waters, you leave behind you all that is now your present problem, or limitation, by taking your ATTENTION AWAY from it. Turn your back completely upon every problem and limitation that you now possess.

Dwell upon just being by saying, “I AM,” “I AM,” “I AM,” to yourself. Continue to declare to yourself that you just are. Do not condition this declaration, just continue to FEEL yourself to be and without warning you will find yourself slipping the anchor that tied you to the shallow of your problems and moving out into the deep.

This is usually accompanied with the feeling of expansion. You will FEEL yourself expand as though you were actually growing. Don’t be afraid, for courage is necessary. You are not going to die to anything by your former limitations, but they are going to die as you move away from them, for they live only in your consciousness. In this deep or expanded consciousness you will find yourself to be a power that you had never dreamt of before.

The things desired before you shoved off from the shores of limitation are the fish you are going to catch in this deep. Because you have lost all consciousness of your problems and barriers, it is now the easiest thing in the world to FEEL yourself to be one with the things desired.

Because I AM (your consciousness) is the resurrection and the life, you must attach this resurrecting power that you are to the thing desired if you would make it appear and live in your world. Now you begin to assume the nature of the thing desired by feeling, “I AM wealthy”; “I AM free”; “I AM strong.” When these ‘FEELS’ are fixed within yourself, your formless being will take upon itself the forms of the things felt. You become ‘crucified’ upon the feelings of wealth, freedom, and strength. – Remain buried in the stillness of these convictions. Then, as a thief in the night and when you least expect it, theses qualities will be resurrected in your world as living realities.

The world shall touch you and see that you are flesh and blood for you shall begin to bear fruit of the nature of these qualities newly appropriated. This is the art of successful fishing for the manifestations of life.

Successful realization of the thing desired is also told us in the story of Daniel in the lion’s den. Here, it is recorded that Daniel, while in the lion’s den, turned his back upon the lions and looked towards the light coming from above; that the lions remained powerless and Daniel’s faith in his God saved him.

This also is your story and you too must do as Daniel did. If you found yourself in a lion’s den you would have no other concern but lions. You would not be thinking of one thing in the world but your problem – which problem would be lions.

Yet, you are told that Daniel turned his back upon them and looked towards the light that was his God. If we would follow the example of Daniel we would, while imprisoned within the den of poverty of sickness, take our attention away from our problems of debts or sickness and dwell upon the thing we seek.

If we do not look back in consciousness to our problems but continue in faith – believing ourselves to be that which we seek, we too will find our prison walls open and the thing sought – yes, “whatsoever things” – realized.

Another story is told us; of the widow and the three drops of oil. The prophet asked the widow, “What have ye in your house?” And she replied, “Three drops of oil.” He then said to her, “Go borrow vessels. Close the door after ye have returned into your house and begin to pour.” And she poured from three drops of oil into all the borrowed vessels, filling them to capacity with oil remaining.

You, the reader, are this widow. You have not a husband to impregnate you or make you fruitful, for a ‘widow’ is a barren state. Your awareness is now the Lord – or the prophet that has become your husband.

Follow the example of the widow, who instead of recognizing an emptiness or nothingness, recognized the something – three drops of oil.

Then the command to her, “Go within and close the door,” that is, shut the door of the senses that tell you of the empty measures, the debts, the problems.

When you have taken your attention away completely by shutting out the evidence of the senses, begin to FEEL the joy, (symbolized by oil) – of having received the things desired. When the agreement is established within you so that all doubts and fears have passed away, then, you too will fill all the empty measures of your life and ill have an abundance running over.

Recognition is the power that conjures in the world. Every state that you have ever recognized, you have embodied. That which you are recognizing as true of yourself today is that which you are experiencing. So be as the widow and recognize joy, no matter how little the beginnings of recognition, and you will be generously rewarded – for the world is a magnified mirror, magnifying everything that you are conscious of being.

“I AM the Lord the God, which has brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; thou shalt have no other gods before me.” What a glorious revelation, your awareness now revealed as the Lord thy God! Come, awake from your dream of being imprisoned. Realize that the earth is yours, “and the fullness thereof; the world, and all that dwells therein.”

You have become so enmeshed in the belief that you are man that you have forgotten the glorious being that you are. Now with your memory restored DECREE the unseen to appear and it SHALL appear, for all things are compelled to respond to the Voice of God, Your awareness of being – the world is AT YOUR COMMAND!

The Universe Knows the Bigger Picture

Your desires are eternally yours,
and they will come to you at the very best time.

You can influence the very best time
by saying things like,
"The Universe knows the bigger picture."

"I'm going to let it deal with the timing of this.
Meanwhile, I'll just do everything I can
to keep moving happily along."

Paint for Fun

-

Prentice Mulford has some interesting ideas on work.

He said: "To succeed in any undertaking, any art or any trade or any profession, simply keep it ever persistently fixed in mind as an aim, and then study to make all effort toward it play or recreation. The moment it becomes hard work, we are not advancing."

As I look back on my experiences in the artworld, I see how true this is. From the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia came eight men, all of about the same age, who became distinguished and successful artists.

They were called "The Eight" in Contemporary Art. Not one of them was ever known to work hard. They never drew from the antique; they never did anything in an academic way. They simply expressed themselves. They painted and drew because they loved it - for the fun of it.

They tell an amusing story of one of them who became a very well-known landscape artist, taking many medals and honorary mentions at exhibits.

He had a one-man show in New York City at one of the big galleries, and was seated reading a paper.

An enthusiastic woman rushed up to him and said: "Can you tell me anything about the wonderful man who painted these adorable pictures?"

He replied: "Sure, I'm the guy that painted the damn things."

He painted for fun, he didn't care whether people liked his pictures or not.

Actions and "Gestures"

Field training students often are curious about the role of action in deliberate intending. In our view, actions follow naturally, spontaneously, and inevitably from intentions. So how we move through the world corresponds to the identity choices we’re making, wittingly or not.

The only reference to action in the Course is in the direction to “do what’s before us to do,” with a note that this may or may not have anything obvious to do with what we’ve deliberately intended.

For example, I may be deliberately intending financial success, and find that what’s before me to do, right now, in the living present, is wash the dishes. In that case, washing the dishes is the right action, because failing to do what’s before us to do invariably arises from counterintentions.

It isn’t surprising, then, from a Field training point of view, that failing to wash the dishes when washing the dishes is before us to do may move through the nonlocal concatenation of causes and effects in a way that somehow postpones financial success—or whatever other fulfillment we’ve claimed inwardly.

Action, of course, would not be central in any consciousness-as-cause model, except insofar as it contributes to one’s deliberately chosen state of consciousness relevant to the action.

In Seth/Jane Roberts’s book, The Nature of Personal Reality, Seth/Jane advises us, after making the required alteration in consciousness, to make some gesture to show ourselves that we believe in what we’re doing, meaning that we believe in the new identity.

In the case of intending financial abundance, it might mean spending a few dollars more than we may think we can afford in the faith that somehow the money will come into our reality.

There’s a similar idea in the approach Huna takes to conscious creating—Huna being Polynesian shamanism as practiced by the kahunas. They, too, regarded a gesture, some action in the world, as an important part of the creative process.

Field training doesn’t include this idea for the simple reason that, in practical terms, the idea almost entails the strategic, premeditating approach that Field training diligently avoids, holding as it does that any such approach immediately implicates us in the contradiction of believing in the very condition we’re aiming
to change through belief.

Even in Seth/Jane’s book, the essential gesture is described as having the aim of convincing us that what we’ve claimed inwardly is true.

So, the action serves as something like an anchor that gives the new belief greater credibility in what might be regarded as a kind of biofeedback reinforcement.

Field training prefers the idea that such “gestures” occur spontaneously and naturally, commensurate with the thoroughness of our alignment in the new identity.

Believing wholeheartedly that one has financial means that one believed, in the previous identity, one lacked, naturally expresses itself in the sort of actions that Seth?Jane/Huna regard as part of their “method.”

You can see in this word method the first inkling of strategy that Field training considers problematic. If our alignment is not thorough—that is, if we’re still “bilocated” in the language of Field theory, then a situation will come up that presents us with two options, each one representing one of the bilocated identities.

Often test situations come unexpectedly, and we don’t realize until later that we were tested—that is, confronted with a situation in which we had to choose, wittingly or not, to remain true to the new version of self or revert to the former identity, complete with its payoff and price.

These aren’t tests that one can pass or fail; they simply reveal in the most practical terms, who one is being, thus giving us the opportunity either to express our alignment or to deepen it in newfound resolve.

In our view, the new sense of oneself is like a stone thrown into the center of the lake of reality. From it, ripples move out in all directions, showing up as new thoughts and feelings, new actions, and new conditions—all moving effortlessly through the medium of our being-here, while we rest at the center.

Seth Speaks: Probabilities...

"You create reality through your feelings, thoughts, and mental actions. Some of these are physically materialized, others are actualized in probable systems. You are presented with an endless series of choices, it seems, at any point, some more or less favorable than others.

You must understand that each mental act is a reality for which you are responsible. That is what you are in this particular system of reality for. As long as you believe in a devil, for example, you will create one that is real enough for you, and for the others who continue to create him.

Because of the energy he is given by others, he will have a certain consciousness of his own, but such a mock devil has no power or reality to those who do not believe in his existence, and who do not give him energy through their belief.

He is, in other words, a superlative hallucination.

As mentioned earlier, those who believe in a hell and assign themselves to it through their belief can indeed experience one, but certainly in nothing like eternal terms.

No soul is forever ignorant."

Milk the Pleasure

Milk every moment for all the pleasure
you can get from it.

Say:

"It is my dominant intent to look for
things that feel good, today.
---
No matter where I'm going, no matter what I'm doing,
no matter who I'm doing it with,...
---
It is my dominant intent to look for what I'm wanting to see,
to look for things that feel good."

...

And, the more you develop the habit of that kind of vibration,
the more the Universe understands that that's who you are!

And so, the more you have access to only those kinds of things!

Close Your Eyes

CLOSE YOUR EYES

Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes
doesn't mean he lacks vision.

Stevie Wonder

Too often we let the outer conditions of our lives determine how we feel and thus what we attract. That's fine if what we are looking at is something we like. But if what we see around us is something we do not like, then by observing it and focusing on it, we keep attracting more of it into our lives.

This game is very simple; it's designed to help you to stop focusing on what you don't want, and imagine what you do want. To play, just close your eyes and imagine that you are in the exact surroundings you would be in if your desire had already manifested itself.

For example, if you are currently living in a tiny apartment but you would like to be living in a brand new home, close your eyes and imagine that you are currently sitting in that home. With your eyes closed, in your mind's eye, where in the room are you? How tall are the ceilings. What is the floor made of? What color are the walls? If you want to win an Academy Award, imagine that you are at the award ceremony. Who is sitting in front of you? Who is sitting behind and beside you? Who is standing at the podium? How high are the ceilings? What colors are the curtains and walls? Now as you imagine this vividly, see if you can evoke the emotions from currently being in these surroundings. Describe how it makes you feel?

Wealthy in Spirit

...by Deepak Chopra ... (from October)

-

Ordinary people are outraged that the wealthy want to be given free money as a bailout, and at the same time they are frightened about losing their own money.

Fear doesn't live in a vacuum.

-

To cope with uncertain times, many turn to morality.

-

They blame runaway greed on Wall Street, even though, as a commentator wisely said, Wall Street without greed would just be pavement.

They blame the financial world in general for being selfish and rapacious.

They blame government for not looking after the average Joe, and finally, many people wonder if God isn't blaming all of us for our sinful ways.

-

This flood of blame and judgment shows an impoverishment of spirit that is far worse than loss of money.

-

Jesus was asking a serious question when he said, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world if he loses his soul?"

By the same logic he told his listeners to store up wealth in heaven, not on earth.

This turns out to be good economics, because the more you attach your worth to money, the more harmed you will be in a crash.

But there's much more to it, of course.

-

To be wealthy in spirit means that you are confident, tolerant and forgiving of others.

If that seems too idealistic in hard times, then consider this.

You are wealthy if you don't need the things money can buy in order to prosper.

-

When we were young and didn't have money, what motivated us?

Enthusiasm, a vision of the future, the desire to follow a personal vision, curiosity about the world, a drive to fulfill our own potential, and love for those we wanted to nourish and support.

All those things are tied to money, but they aren't the same as money.

They are the coins of spiritual wealth.

-

Wealth of spirit gives you the ability to make a living.

Having money in the bank doesn't lead to love of others or a vision that motivates you to be better tomorrow than you are today.

-

The way out of this financial crisis is for Americans to regain more inner wealth.

-

How is that done?

-

-- Reject fear and pessimism.

-- Know what your vision is and act upon it.

-- Don't blame others and seek payback when things go wrong.

-- Prosper inwardly through love, generosity, giving, and altruism.

-- Stop identifying with your salary and possessions.

-- Work for the common good whenever you can.

-

No country has ever had a Golden Age when people lived by all these things, but there are times when these things dominate social behavior and other times when they are forgotten.

-

I think it's foolish to try and calculate whether America is in moral decline.

Individual lives are always full of promise and hidden potential.

-

The rise of a corrupt ruling class and the huge inequalities between rich and poor aren't a good sign, but even here there's enormous will to pull back from the brink.

-

The key to a turnaround isn’t financial or moral, for that matter.

It comes down to understanding the difference between wealth and money, and then living as if that difference matters.

-

Lest people think an idealist vision does not translate into practical economics, let us consider some of the specific policy outcomes that the current crisis could lead to:

1. A de-militarized economy that does not equate security with the size of the Pentagon’s budget.

2. Investment in wisdom-based economies, including alternative energies, sustainable agriculture and ways to restore balance in the ecosystem.

3. A genuine re-investment in education that rewards excellence in science and creativity.

4 The building of infrastructure, including urban oil-free transportation, restoring our bridges, roads, parks, and forest.

5. Comprehensive health care coverage for everyone in the country.

-

Every crisis comes with opportunity.

Knowing the difference between wealth and money provides the wisdom to seize these creative opportunities.

-

A monetary bailout, on the other hand would merely serve as a band-aid,
not a long-term solution.

The Wisdom of Creative Thinking

The Universe does not know whether the vibration that you're offering is because of something you're observing or something you're remembering or something that you are imagining.

It just receives the vibration and answers it with things that match it.

The Perfect Universe

THE ONE WHO DESIRES TO HEAL
must stop seeing, reading about, discussing, or listening
to conversation about sickness.

There is no other way under the sun except as we let go of that which we do not desire, and take that which we wish to have.

There is too much of this deceiving ourselves into thinking that we can do two ways at once.

We may deceive ourselves and possibly other people, but the law remains the same, a Law of mental correspondences, and nothing else.

We cannot go beyond our ability to realize the truth, water rises only to its own level.

In our patients as well as in ourselves and our environment we will reflect what we are, not at our best in the few moments of silence,
but in the long run of ordinary life and thought.

To acquire the larger consciousness is no easy task.

-

All that we have believed in which
contradicts the perfect whole
must be dropped from our thought,
and we must come to realize that
we are now living in a perfect universe,
peopled with perfect spiritual beings,
each of which

(coupled with the Great Divinity)
is complete within himself.

-

We must see that we are one in the great one,
and then we will not separate or divide, but unite and add to,
until in time we will find that we are living in
an entirely different world
from that in which we had once thought we were living.

-

Of course, this will meet with much opposition from those unenlightened souls whom we must contact in the world.

But what of that?

Remember, the great man is the one
who can keep in the crowd,
...the calm, even thought,
...the deep divine reliance on principle.

And more, this is the only way to help or to save the world.

In time all people will come to the same understanding.

You are lifting up the standard of life, and those who are ready
will follow.

You have no responsibility to save the world
except by exemplifying the truth.

The world must save itself.

All are alike; there is no difference between one person and another.

-

Come to see all as a divine idea;
stop all negative thought;
think only about what you want,
and never about what you do not want,
as that would cause a false creation.

-

Too much cannot be said about the fact that all are dealing with only one power, making and unmaking for man through the creative power of his own thought.

-
If there is something in your life
that you do not want there,
stop fighting it---forget it!

Clarify and Purify

You have sole ownership of your vision.

And the Universe
will give you
what you want
within your vision.

What happens with most people is that
they muddy their vision with "reality."

Their vision becomes full of not only what they want
but what everybody else thinks about what they want, too.

Your work is to clarify and purify your vision
so that the vibration that you are offering
can then be answered.

The World of Cause

There are people all around us who are continually giving out blessings and comfort, persons whose mere presence seems to change sorrow into joy, fear into courage, despair into hope, weakness into power.

It is the one who has come into the realization of his own true self who carries this power with him and who radiates it wherever he goes,—the one who, as we say, has found his center. And in all the great universe there is but one center,—the Infinite Power that is working in and through all. The one who then has found his center is the one who has come into the realization of his oneness with this Infinite Power, the one who recognizes himself as a spiritual being, for God is spirit.

Such is the man of power. Centered in the Infinite, he has thereby, so to speak, connected himself with, he has attached his belts to, the great power-house of the universe. He is constantly drawing power to himself from all sources. For, thus centered, knowing himself, conscious of his own power, the thoughts that go from his mind are thoughts of strength; and by virtue of the law that like attracts like, he by his thoughts is continually attracting to himself from all quarters the aid of all whose thoughts are thoughts of strength, and in this way he is linking himself with this order of thought in the universe.

And so to him that hath, to him shall be given. This is simply the working of a natural law. His strong, positive, and hence constructive thought is continually working success for him along all lines, and continually bringing to him help from all directions. The things that he sees, that he creates in the ideal, are through the agency of this strong constructive thought continually clothing themselves, taking form, manifesting themselves in the material. Silent, unseen forces are at work which will sooner or later be made manifest in the visible.

Fear and all thoughts of failure never suggest themselves to such a man; or if they do, they are immediately sent out of his mind, and so he is not influenced by this order of thought from without. He does not attract it to him. He is in another current of thought. Consequently the weakening, failure-bringing thoughts of the fearing, the vacillating, the pessimistic about him, have no influence upon him.

The one who is of the negative, fearing kind not only has his energies and his physical agents weakened, or even paralyzed through the influence of this kind of thought that is born within him, but he also in this way connects himself with this order of thought in the world about him. And in the degree that he does this does he become a victim to the weak, fearing, negative minds all around him. Instead of growing in power, he increases in weakness.

He is in the same order of thought with those of whom it is true,—and even that which they have shall he taken away from them. This again is simply the working of a natural law, the same as is its opposite. Fearing lest I lose even what I have I hide it away in a napkin. Very well. I must then pay the price of my "fearing lest I lose."

Thoughts of strength both build strength from within and attract it from without. Thoughts of weakness actualize weakness from within and attract it from without.

Courage begets strength, fear begets weakness. And so courage begets success, fear begets failure. It is the man or the woman of faith, and hence of courage, who is the master of circumstances, and who makes his or her power felt in the world. It is the man or the woman who lacks faith and who as a consequence is weakened and crippled by fears and forebodings, who is the creature of all passing occurrences.

Within each one lies the cause
of whatever comes to him.

Each has it in his own hands
to determine what comes.

Everything in the visible, material world
has its origin in the unseen,
the spiritual, the thought world.

This is the world of cause,
the former is the world of effect.

The nature of the effect is always in accordance with the nature of the cause.

What one lives in his invisible, thought world,
he is continually actualizing
in his visible, material world.

If he would have any conditions
different in the latter
he must make the necessary change in the former.

A clear realization of this great fact would bring success to thousands of men and women who all about us are now in the depths of despair. It would bring health, abounding health and strength to thousands now diseased and suffering. It would bring peace and joy to thousands now unhappy and ill at ease.

And oh, the thousands all about us who are continually living in the slavery of fear. The spirits within that should be strong and powerful, are rendered weak and impotent. Their energies are crippled, their efforts are paralyzed.

"Fear is everywhere,—fear of want, fear of starvation, fear of public opinion, fear of private opinion, fear that what we own today may not be ours tomorrow, fear of sickness, fear of death. Fear has become with millions a fixed habit. The thought is everywhere. The thought is thrown upon us from every direction. . . . To live in continual dread, continual cringing, continual fear of anything, be it loss of love, loss of money, loss of position or situation, is to take the readiest means to lose what we fear we shall."

By fear nothing is to be gained, but on the contrary, everything is to be lost. "I know this is true," says one, "but I am given to fear; it's natural to me and I can't help it." Can't help it! In saying this you indicate one great reason of your fear by showing that you do not even know yourself as yet.

You must know yourself in order to know your powers, and not until you know them can you use them wisely and fully. Don't say you can't help it. If you think you can't, the chances are that you can't. If you think you can, and act in accordance with this thought, then not only are the chances that you can, but if you act fully in accordance with it, that you can and that you will is an absolute certainty.

It was Virgil who in describing the crew which in his mind would win the race, said of them,—They can because they think they can. In other words, this very attitude of mind on their part will infuse a spiritual power into their bodies that will give them the strength and endurance which will enable them to win.

Then take the thought that you can; take it merely as a seed-thought, if need be, plant it in your consciousness, tend it, cultivate it, and it will gradually reach out and gather strength from all quarters. It will focus and make positive and active the spiritual force within you that is now scattered and of little avail. It will draw to itself force from without. It will draw to your aid the influence of other minds of its own nature, minds that are fearless, strong, courageous. You will thus draw to yourself and connect yourself with this order of thought.

If earnest and faithful, the time will soon come when all fear will loose its hold; and instead of being an embodiment of weakness and a creature of circumstances, you will find yourself a tower of strength and a master of circumstances.

We need more faith in every-day life,—faith in the power that works for good, faith in the Infinite God, and hence faith in ourselves created in His image. And however things at times may seem to go, however dark at times appearances may be, the knowledge of the fact that "the Supreme Power has us in its charge as it has the suns and endless systems of worlds in space," will give us the supreme faith that all is well with us, the same as all is well with the world. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee."

There is nothing firmer, and safer, and surer than Deity. Then, as we recognize the fact that we have it in our own hands to open ourselves ever more fully to this Infinite Power, and call upon it to manifest itself in and through us, we will find in ourselves an ever increasing sense of power. For in this way we are working in conjunction with it, and it in turn is working in conjunction with us.

We are then led into the full realization of the fact that all things work together for good to those that love the good. Then the fears and forebodings that have dominated us in the past will be transmuted into faith, and faith when rightly understood and rightly used is a force before which nothing can stand.

Materialism leads naturally to pessimism. And how could it do otherwise? A knowledge of the Spiritual Power working in and through us as well as in and through all things, a power that works for righteousness, leads to optimism. Pessimism leads to weakness. Optimism leads to power.

The one who is centered in Deity is the one who not only outrides every storm, but who through the faith, and so, the conscious power that is in him, faces storm with the same calmness and serenity that he faces fair weather; for he knows well beforehand what the outcome will be. He knows that underneath are the everlasting arms. He it is who realizes the truth of the injunction, "Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him and He shall give thee thy heart's desire." All shall be given, simply given, to him who is ready to accept it. Can anything be clearer than this?

In the degree, then, that we work in conjunction with the Supreme Power do we need the less to concern ourselves about results. To live in the full realization of this fact and all that attends it brings peace, a full, rich, abiding peace,—a peace that makes the present complete, and that, going on before, brings back the assurance that as our days, so shall our strength be. The one who is thus centerd, even in the face of all the unrest and the turmoil about us, can realize and say—

"I stay my haste, I make delays,
For what avails this eager pace?
I stand amid eternal ways,
And what is mine shall know my face.

"Asleep, awake, by night or day,
The friends I seek are seeking me;
No wind can drive my bark astray,
Nor change the tide of destiny.

"The waters know their own, and draw
The brooks that spring in yonder heights
So flows the good with equal law
Unto the soul of pure delight.

"The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave unto the sea;
Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high.,
Can keep my own away from me."

Seth's Perspective

"Realize that your physical experience and environment is the materialization of your beliefs.

If you find great exuberance, health, effective work, abundance, smiles on the faces of those who you meet, then take it for granted that your beliefs are beneficial.

If you see a world that is good, people like you, take it for granted again, that your beliefs are beneficial.

But if you find poor health, a lack of meaningful work, a lack of abundance, a world of sorrow and evil, then assume your beliefs are faulty and begin examining them."

Seth, "The Nature of Personal Reality"
-
"If you take upon yourselves tragedies that do not exist in your reality, in your moment; then you weaken your position and you weaken the position of those you think you are helping.

You look about you and you see only hopelessness and helplessness.

You organize your reality according to the tragedies of the newspapers!

The tragedies of the newspapers are symbols.

Those symbols represent "real" tragedies, but those tragedies do not exist in your moment unless you are participating in them.

Those who are involved in such tragedies feel a sense of hopeless and a loss of power in the present - and you do not help them by taking on the guise of hopelessness!"

Seth, "Conversations With Seth" by Sue Watkins
-
"Your experience in the world of physical matter flows outward from the center of your inner psyche. Then you perceive this experience.

Exterior events, circumstances and conditions are meant as a kind of 'living" feedback.

Altering the state of the psyche automatically alters the physical circumstances.

There is no other valid way of changing physical events.

It might help if you imagine an inner living dimension within yourself, in which you create, in miniature psychic form, all the exterior conditions that you know.

Simply put, you do exactly this."

Awakened Imagination

Truth depends upon the intensity of the imagination not upon external facts. Facts are the fruit bearing witness of the use or misuse of the imagination.

Man becomes what he imagines. He has a self-determined history.

Imagination is the way, the truth, the life revealed. We cannot get hold of truth with the logical mind.

Where the natural man of sense sees a bud, imagination sees a rose full-blown.

Truth cannot be encompassed by facts.

As we awaken to the imaginative life we discover that to imagine a thing is so makes it so, that a true judgment need not conform to the external reality to which it relates.

The imaginative man does not deny the reality of the sensuous outer world of Becoming, but he knows that it is the inner world of continuous Imagination that is the force by which the sensuous outer world of Becoming is brought to pass. He sees the outer world and all its happenings as projections of the inner world of Imagination. To him everything is a manifestation of the mental activity which goes on in man's imagination without the sensuous reasonable man being aware of it.

But he realizes that every man must become conscious of this inner activity and see the relationship between the inner causal world of imagination and the sensuous outer world of effects.

It is a marvelous thing to find that you can imagine yourself into the state of your fulfilled desire and escape from the jails which ignorance built.

The Real Man is a Magnificent Imagination.

It is this self that must be awakened.

---

Man must firmly come to believe that reality lies within him and not without.

The world presents different appearances according as our states of consciousness differ. What we see when we are identified with a state cannot be seen when we are no longer fused with it. By "state" is meant all that man believes and consents to as true.

No idea presented to the mind can realize itself unless the mind accepts it. It depends on the acceptance, the state with which we are identified, how things present themselves.

In the fusion of imagination and states is to be found the shaping of the world as it seems. The world is a revelation of the states with which imagination is fused. It is the state from which we think that determines the objective world in which we live.

The rich man, the poor man, the good man, the thief, are what they are by virtue of the states from which they view the world. On the distinction between these states depends the distinction between the worlds of these men. Individually so different is this same world.

It is not the actions and behavior of the good man that should be matched but his point of view. Outer reforms are useless if the inner state is not changed. Success is gained not by imitating the outer actions of the successful but by right inner actions and inner talking.

If we detach ourselves from a state, and we may at any moment, the conditions and circumstances to which that union gave being vanish.

Man lives by committing himself to invisible states, by fusing his imagination with what he knows to be other than himself, and in this union he experiences the results of that fusion. No one can lose what he has, save by detachment from the state where the things experienced have their natural life.

The world which we describe from observation must be as we describe it relative to ourselves. Our imagination connects us with the state desired.

But we must use imagination masterfully, not as an onlooker thinking of the end, but as a partaker thinking from the end. We must actually be there in imagination. If we do this, our subjective experience will be realized objectively.

Determined imagination, thinking from the end, is the beginning of all miracles.

The future must become the present in the imagination of the one who would wisely and consciously create circumstances. We must translate vision into Being, thinking of into thinking from, Imagination must center itself in some state and view the world from that state.

Thinking from the end is an intense perception of the world of fulfilled desire. Thinking from the state desired is creative living. Ignorance of this ability to think from the end is bondage. It is the root of all bondage with which man is bound.

To passively surrender to the evidence of the senses under-estimates the capacities of the Inner Self. Once man accepts thinking from the end as a creative principle in which he can cooperate, then he is redeemed from the absurdity of ever attempting to achieve his objective by merely thinking of it.

Construct all ends according to the pattern of fulfilled desire.

The whole of life is just the appeasement of hunger, and the infinite states of consciousness from which a man can view the world are purely a means of satisfying that hunger. The principle upon which each state is organized is some form of hunger to lift the passion for self-gratification to ever higher and higher levels of experience.

Desire is the mainspring of the mental machinery. It is a blessed thing. It is a right and natural craving which has a state of consciousness as its right and natural satisfaction.

The spanning of the bridge between desire — thinking of— and satisfaction — thinking from — is all-important.

We must move mentally from thinking of the end to thinking from the end. This, reason could never do. By its nature it is restricted to the evidence of the senses; but imagination, having no such limitation, can.

Desire exists to be gratified in the activity of imagination. Through imagination man escapes from the limitation of the senses and the bondage of reason.

There is no stopping the man who can think from the end. Nothing can stop him.

Outward Actions of an Inward Existence

There is a constant
give and take
between each individual and his or her society.

The divisions and characteristics
of any particular civilization
will be a perfect exterior representation
of the overall attributes of the people within it,
as they relate to one another
and as they see themselves.

The exterior dimensions
are replicas of
interior personal ones.

The accomplishments, wars,
difficulties and institutions
are all
"after the event"
--- that is,
they are outward actions
of an inward existence.

Under certain conditions
water turns into ice.

In the same way,
interior events can appear
in physical reality
in a quite different form
than the original.
